Biografía del Artista: Simon Callery (United Kingdom, 1960) is an artist whose works emphasize materiality and are often made in direct contact with the environment, taking advantage of the surfaces that make up the landscape. The artist has collaborated with the School of Archaeology at the University of Oxford for many years, using the setting of archaeological excavations as part of his creative process. In these paintings, the canvases are marked, cut, perforated, soaked in highly saturated tempera paint and sewn together, revealing all kinds of gaps and cavities. The works that make up this exhibition are the result of the work carried out by the artist at two Iron Age archaeological sites, Moel y Gael, Bodfari in North Wales, and Nesscliffe Hill in Shropshire, England. Callery says that he works "to make painting what it was again and, as a result, to gain a better awareness of ourselves." Simon Callery (London, 1960). Lives and works between London and Turin.
