Manolo Paz - The fishbowl
Técnica: Bahia blue granite
Biografía del Artista:Manolo Paz is one of the most prominent sculptors on the art scene. His work, regardless of trends, aims to transform inert matter into a work of art. Since his beginnings he has worked with industrial materials such as concrete or metal, alternating the leading role in his production with natural elements such as granite or wood. His works transform landscapes from his native Galicia to Japan and are part of the urban landscape of cities such as Brussels, Stuttgart or Chicago. Recently, Manolo Paz's work has been exhibited in one of the most emblematic avenues of Madrid with his exhibition 'The distance that unites', on the axis formed by the Paseo del Prado and the Paseo de Recoletos, with a set of twelve of his works. From the Plaza de Colón to the Paseo del Prado, up to seven museums and exhibition centres are connected by this axis of culture and art, thus becoming the ideal setting for a dialogue with contemporary art by the hand of the Galician sculptor for whom nature is the cornerstone of his artistic practice. Manolo Paz lets the materials speak freely; the material rules and always has a chance. His is an inner gaze, as deep as it is direct, tense, vibrant. He is not one of those artists who seek mathematical precision, but one of those who prefer to incorporate accidents, smudges, blurring, the marks of life. It matters little if the form is geometric and modular, it is always assumed to be porous, impure. In short, it is about distilling the image, deriving it, measuring the space with the tension of the drawing, to activate it, convinced that there is always more space than we can encompass.
