Pep Guerrero (Port of Sóller, Mallorca, 1966) He began his artistic career in 1991, with an exhibition at the Lluc Fluxá Gallery in Palma. Since then he has not stopped participating in individual and collective exhibitions, gaining special recognition both nationally and internationally. Over the years he has exhibited in numerous galleries such as Galería Kartner in Paris, Yvonamor Palix Fine Arts in Houston, Galería Blanca Soto in Madrid or The Cynthia Cobett Gallery in New York, among others. His work has been present in important international art fairs: Arte Fiera Bolonia, Art Chicago, ARCO Madrid, FIAC Paris, ARTEBA Buenos Aires, The Art Hamptons New York, Art Miami, Art Basel Miami or Art Cologne are some examples. In the vast majority of these fairs he was presented by Galería Ferrán Cano in Palma, a gallery that represented him almost from its beginnings until its closure in 2013. Guerrero is possibly one of the artists with his own style and language. His works are quickly identifiable, the result of a combination of painting and collage, using reproductions of images from Renaissance paintings, as well as completely contemporary ones, as well as selected printed papers, such as toile de Jouy landscapes or others that imitate animal skins, in which these are confused or rather, they confuse us, in a kind of game between the real and the fictitious, between what is painted and what the artist has appropriated. Guerrero's works, with an aesthetic close to Kitch, Pop or Dadaism, have at the same time that air, that aura of a classical work, with references to the great works of Renaissance painters. In his painting we can see an admiration and respect for the entire history of art, but at the same time he questions us about our closest reality, our customs and habits, our consumerist lifestyle. Guerrero has used more than just fabric and paper as supports; he has also used any object that has caught his attention. He began to recover objects and furniture that he found, with a vintage aesthetic, on which he worked with the same technique. He has worked on chairs, armchairs, bedside tables, lamps, scooters and skateboards, showers, shoes, bags, suitcases, even a foosball table or a ping pong table, among many other objects. They are cheerful, fun works that immediately attract our attention and form a kind of puzzle in which everything has and finds its place, everything dialogues with everything else, the classic with the contemporary, the elements and strokes used in some works can also be found in others. In his exhibitions he creates environments like stage sets, in which many of these objects are mixed with paintings on canvas. Guerrero's work has transcended the exhibition space, collaborating with Ágatha Ruíz de la Prada, Tolo Crespí and the Camper brand.
