Giorgio Griffa - Without title
Técnica: Acrylic
Biografía del Artista: Giorgio Griffa was born in Turin, Italy, in 1936 and became interested in painting as a child. Although he initially trained as a traditional painter, in the late 1960s he began to experiment with abstract works and develop his own personal poetry. He was part of a group of artists, including Giovanni Anselmo, Gilberto Zorio, Giulio Paolini and Mario and Marisa Merz, who transformed post-war Italian art in Turin in the mid-1960s. However, Griffa did not gain international recognition until late in his career, despite exhibiting at the São Paulo Biennale in 1977 and the Venice Biennale in 1978 and 1980. It would not be until the 21st century that his work would receive deserved recognition with several solo exhibitions at major museums and galleries around the world. Griffa's work focuses on materiality and is reduced to essential elements such as canvas, colour and brushstroke. His canvases often feature wrinkles that have formed during storage, adding a kind of grid to his compositions. Although he has been associated with movements such as Arte Povera, Analytical Painting, Pittura-Pittura and Minimalism, Giorgio Griffa's artistic career remains largely solitary, outside of a specific current. This artwork includes a certificate of authenticity.
