Carneiro's ability to combine avant-garde art practice with the seemingly endless agricultural routines of the countryside is truly distinctive. His brief fixation of otherwise transitory stages in a long process is also very much in tune. His own artisanal experience in the santeiro offices (religious image-making workshops), his closeness to the materials and his rootedness gave him an arsenal with which to work and produce new "calendars" of hand-made production. Everything he made seems to have been informed by manual dexterity.
