'Trace'

Trace is the first solo exhibition by Álvaro Negro at Galería Vilaseco. A total of 11 previously unpublished pieces have been selected for this exhibition, all of them painted in recent months in the artist's studio in Agolada (Pontevedra) and in the same line of work as the pictorial project undertaken in Rome, after his time at the Royal Academy of Spain. Abstract works that evoke a tradition of Western painting as closely linked in history as Italian and Spanish. The artist cites some reference works by Giotto or Lorenzo Lotto, both for the chromatic palette and for textures that have a lot to do with the detailed observation of fresco painting.

In the works in this exhibition we can also see a return to the painting carried out by the artist in his early days, such as the paintings in the Traza series, essentialist in the mere use of graphite and glaze, as occurred in paintings such as Candan (1996), whose title refers to the mountain range of the same name, the landscape of Álvaro Negro's childhood.
