'Intestinal affair. RESIDENCE ARTIST I. Art House San Clemente (USA) ',

The body of work featured in Intestinal Affair is a self-portrait exploration of gut health and ecology by artist Dia Muñoz after contracting COVID-19 in October 2020. Studies show that COVID-19 patients had symbiont depletion and opportunistic pathogen enrichment, which are persistent after COVID-19 has cleared. An estimated 40% of the world’s population suffers from gut-related issues, creating a depletion of the microbiome ecology in the human body. In a study of 204 patients who had contracted COVID-19, 50% had developed gut issues as a result of the virus.
