Biografía del Artista: Elina Brotherus (Helsinki, Finland, 1972) is one of the most acclaimed European photographers. Her mediums of expression are both photography and video. In her early works she dealt with personal but at the same time universal experiences: the presence and absence of love. In her series “The New Painting” (2000-05), Elina tested the relationship between photography and art history and found inspiration in the iconography of classical painting. In “Model Studies” (2002-08) and “Artist and her model” (2005-11) she continued to explore the human figure in the landscape, and the artist’s gaze towards his model. In her projects “12 ans après” (2011-12), “Annonciation” (2009-13) and “Carpe Fucking Diem” (2011-15) Elina returns to the autobiographical approach, albeit in a more detached manner than in her youth. More recently, she has revisited Fluxus “event scores” and other written instructions intended for performance from the 1950s-70s. These earned her the Carte Blanche PMU Prize which was presented with a solo exhibition “Règle du Jeu” (2016-17) at the Centre Pompidou in Paris in 2017.
