Description
Jon Gorospe - The Monolith

Biografía del Artista: Jon Gorospe, Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain, 1986) Graduated from the EASD in the Basque Country and the Faculty of Arts in Vilnius (Lithuania). He completed his training with different authors from the world of photography, auteur cinema and visual arts. His work has been recognized by numerous public and private institutions, such as the Salomon R. Guggenheim Museum (USA), the Sasakawa Foundation (Japan-Scandinavia) or Futures Photography (Creative Europe Programme). He has exhibited his work in different countries such as: Spain , Portugal, Italy, France, Germany, England, Slovakia, Norway, Russia or Singapore. An important part of his work focuses on new approaches to the idea of anthropized landscape, developing different bodies of work such as Polished Cities (2018-in progress), Metropolis (2018-2019) or Environments (2014-2016). Gorospe combines his work as an artistic creator with the study and understanding of the image from a theoretical point of view, developing cultural management and curatorial tasks.” Member of Forbundet Frie Photographer

“Praise to the Outside” is an exhibition that brings together works since 2016 to the present. The title of this exhibition has been borrowed from the first chapter of the essay “Mobilized Societies” by the anthropologist Manuel Delgado. The simple gesture of opening a door and stepping to the other side encapsulates the experience of going out, of transitioning from being inside to being outside. When we are inside, we are sheltered and protected from the dangers of the outside world, while the outdoors awaits us with an endless array of physical and moral dangers. In the city, its protagonists are uprooted. They are mobile characters, unable to be otherwise, as the outside, without roofs or walls, can hardly serve as a domicile for anything. Similarly, the outdoors holds for us an infinity of surprises, interactions, and encounters with the unknown that enrich our existence. The collective effervescence and ordinary activity of the urban crowd demonstrate the capacity for cooperation among individuals. From the intertwining of what challenges us we challenge, opportunities for exploration and discovery emerge.
