Playful unconscious
The Fernando Pradilla Gallery presents the fourth solo exhibition of artist Victoria Encinas, entitled "Unconscious playful".
The exhibition includes a selection of her sculptures and paintings from the last two years. Encinas, influenced by the Madrid art scene of the 1980s and 1990s, explores the "dematerialization of the idea of art" and has distinguished herself as a curator in independent spaces.
The title of the exhibition refers to Rosalind Krauss's concept of the "Optical Unconscious", and Encinas highlights the importance of the creative impulse and life force in her work. Her artistic approach encompasses painting, sculpture and drawing, with a fusion of free geometry and biomorphic organicity. The artist eludes symbolic meanings and latencies, focusing on plastic freedom and visual logic/illogic.
Using contemporary materials such as “non-expressionist” textured acrylics and dyed leather in sculptures, Encinas’ work reflects a fusion of geometric and organic elements, rooted in the Antiform concept.
Her training includes studies in Madrid, stays in Italy and international scholarships. Her work can be found in public and private collections, including the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, which exhibits the archive of the Poisson Soluble gallery directed by Encinas in the 1980s.
This file was donated by the artist in 2019 and is available for consultation at the MNCARS.
