‘Refuge for Umbría’

“Sunshine and shade, two concepts that name and explain the lights and shadows in the landscape. Hillsides that for long periods of the year are exposed to the sun or behind it. The luminous white that is the protagonist in her works shows those scenarios where the sun prevails. The shadows, the restlessness or the emptiness are reserved or hidden inside those precarious structures; shelters immersed in the landscape. Bringing these two situations to Irene’s work, both from a physical and material point of view and from a more spiritual perspective and a reflection of the current moment, as well as other dichotomies that are reflected in the images she constructs, such as fear and pleasure, discomfort and comfort, is a characteristic of her work. Landscapes that aim to project the estrangement of a forbidden and inaccessible land.
