DAFNE ARTIGOT - Evolution /
Biografía del Artista: The world I see is always more fantastical than the real one and I have a rather acidic sense of humour. Social criticism is present in almost all of my work. I love to create parallel worlds with how things should be and if I can make the viewer smile I don't hesitate to do so. I like everything excessive, bright colours, B-movies and their monsters are a great influence on my work as well as science fiction, superheroes and fantasy cinema. We live in times oversaturated with images and products, life in cities is a constant temptation to consume unnecessary things. Within this system are the great idols who play the role of messiahs of modern life, those influencers whose image we see repeated ad nauseam like the cover of Bowie's Aladdin Sane. Religion is another of my obsessions with its kitsch and baroque aesthetics, reinterpreting it mixed with cinema or current trends in street art, skateboarding, tattoos… Decontextualizing things to generate contrasts of elements that don’t fit together at all is my usual way of working. My intention is not to preach but I like that, regardless of the first impression, the viewer thinks about whether this work would be feasible in our lives. Could Jesus today be a graffiti artist? Would he have tattoos? Would he preach in a church or would he surely be a rapper with thousands of followers? I dedicate myself to art for the fun of inventing worlds that are better than the real one, and I also can't resist a box of colored pencils, it's the best temptation.
