‘Warawar Wawa’
According to Mathias Heibelg, River Claure's intention to reconstruct Bolivian identity through photographic images is not gratuitous in his series “Warawar Wawa” (Son of the stars). The novelty of the project is its starting point. River Claure appropriates one of the fundamental texts of the Western canon – “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupery – and recodifies it. Thus, the artist produces new codes and icons that respond to the concept of Chi'xi, which in the Aymara language means “gray.” River places us between the hegemonic conception and the indigenist conception: he vindicates the roots of the Aymara civilization but also points out, through carefully chosen aesthetic gestures, the presence of Bolivia within a global economy.
