‘I wanted to be perfect, I wanted to be a minimalist, but I have leaks’

After nine years, Suso Basterrechea returns to the METRO Gallery to bring us up to date on what has happened in his studio in recent times. “I wanted to be perfect, I wanted to be minimalist, but I have leaks” is the title of this exhibition, a proclamation taken from one of his works, which is presented as a declaration of intentions. It is said that a sense of humor is a sign of intelligence and irony is one of its most effective tools to analyze important things with rigor and seriousness and at the same time provoke a smile. Suso Basterrechea does this using drawing and drawn text, sometimes in a single space, other times separately, but forming a complex discourse, sometimes subtly sarcastic, other times deliberately poetic, which confronts us with the everyday from those blind spots from which reality is perceived with greater clarity.
