Juan’s flowers have a clear connection with sex: from the mutual seduction proposed by the photographic series Man and Flower to the surrealist Woman and Flower, both from 1969. A year, by the way, marked from many points of view by utopian hopes – sexual, political – for which the flower could undoubtedly be the best of all possible images. But without a doubt, it is the Sad Baroque and the Happy Baroque, also photographic actions carried out that year, which announce the perfect fusion between sex and floral nature. Works that inevitably provoke the smile of that silent wisdom. It does not seem by chance, therefore, that flowers have accompanied Juan throughout his life – from when he composed his paper flowers as a child, to the memory they bring back of his mother in the beautiful tribute Rose, Mirror and Condom.
