Biografía del Artista:

In her body of work, Ximena Garrido-Lecca examines the turbulent history of Peru and explores the cultural impact that has resulted from colonial standards as a result of globalization processes. The artist observes urban, rural or natural architecture and stops at spaces where a negotiating materiality is visible between the specific and the universal. The artist takes as a starting point ways of doing, organizing and communicating present in culture current Peruvian and executes strategies of appropriation, modification and assembly to question our relationship with the transformation in the specificity of the landscape. It is for this reason that often the The artist's sculptures, drawings and installations have a direct reference to popular forms of Peru and through a gesture amplifier indicate and recover their meanings in the construction of our relationship with the world. The work of Garrido-Lecca reflects on the open dynamics that form identity and coexistence of multiple stories that need to be reviewed to generate economic and sociopolitical balances without harming the more fragile communities that resist cultural hegemony. He studied Arts Plastic Arts at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, made a Postgraduate degree in Fine Art at Byam Shaw School of Art in London, United Kingdom; and a Masters in Fine Arts from Byam Shaw School of Art at Central Saint Martins, London, United Kingdom. Garrido-Lecca has participated in numerous exhibitions such as: Divagation, Y Gallery, New York, USA, 2016; United States of Latin America, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD), Detroit, USA, 2015; 10th Mercosul Biennial, Messages from a New America, Porto Alegre, Brazil, 2015; Future Generation Art Prize at Pinchuk Art Centre, Kiev Ukraine (2014); Biennial of the Moving Image BIM, in Buenos Aires, Argentina (2014); Cartagena de Indias Biennial, Cartagena de Indias, Colombia (2014); The Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum (CAFAM) Biennial, Beijing, China (2014); Going to Return, Cuenca Biennial, Ecuador (2014); ICASTICA, International Biennial of Art. Arezzo, Italy (2013); LARA Latin America Roaming Art Project, Bogotá, Colombia (2013); Newspeak: British Art Now at Saatchi Gallery, London, UK, among others. In 2014, Garrido-Lecca won an honorable mention at the 12th Biennial of Cuenca, Ecuador; and in In 2012 he participated in the LARA Project Residency, Asiaciti Trust, Honda, Colombia.
