For her first exhibition at Wild Gallery, Rebecca Glover presents a collection of new works inspired by pregnancy and early motherhood.
When the placenta first forms, it invades the blood supply of the uterus in a similar way to how some cancer cells bypass the immune system. A bit like a “takeover.” From that point on, the mother’s body is no longer her own and becomes a curious new environment of crisscrossing boundaries. Here the body can be experienced as an individual and as a complete ecosystem.
Through sculpture, sound, video and performance, the exhibition explores this negotiation of boundaries between individuals, delving into fungal networks, rooted ears, polyphony and the interconnected and linked nature of societies and species.
What does it mean to listen through a shared body? What does it mean to have agency within an ecosystem?
