Biografía del Artista: Francisco Mendes Moreira is a self-taught artist born in 1984 and based in Lisbon. In recent years, he has gained a large following both online and at international exhibitions in North America, Europe and Australia. Moreira begins his intuitive working process to solve problems, using a variety of media and surfaces, and working predominantly with oil pastels and collage. His style straddles the line between realism and abstraction, and his images pose questions about human nature and existence in the universe. Although analysis has little space in his creative process, Moreira's practice can be seen to be an ongoing commentary and staging of events related to the human condition. His work is based on an intuitive approach that is often triggered by contemporary culture and which underpins both psychological and political aspects. Moreira uses materials he finds in his day to day life, and the scale of his works can vary considerably. His work has been exhibited around the world and has gained a large following for his unique approach and ability to capture the complexity of human life.
