Biografía del Artista: Barcelona, 1931 – Sabadell, 2020 Alfons Borrell is one of the most prominent representatives of lyrical abstraction in Catalonia. After attending Anglada Camarasa's studio and studying at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, Alfons Borrell began his career as a painter in the 1950s, initially focusing on figuration. His work evolved towards abstract expressionism and, in the 1960s, towards gestural painting. In the mid-seventies he developed his own style, free from labels, characterised by a sober monochromatism that consciously distanced itself from the material current of informalism. In his painting, colour prevails over form, based on a language that renounces any referential desire and seeks restraint and rigour.
