Miguel Trillo - Reading Festival England
Técnica: Cibachrome
Biografía del Artista: Miguel Trillo was born in Jimena de la Frontera (Cádiz) in 1953. He holds a degree in Image and Hispanic Linguistics from the Complutense University of Madrid. Since the 1970s he has photographed young people in a musical environment (rock concerts, parties in discos). In the 1980s in Madrid he made the non-famous figures of the Movida his primary focus (Pop Purrí exhibition at the Ovidio gallery -1982- and at the Amadís hall -1983- and anonymous publication of six issues of the fanzine Rockocó -1980 to 1984-). Trillo ended the decade reflecting a generational change in two works published in the creative magazine Sur Exprés: Los nuevos pijos (1988) and Madrid hip hop (1988). In the early 1990s, he produced a portrait of Spanish youth in small provincial capitals for the Sunday edition of the newspaper El País. He exhibited this work at the Moriarty Gallery (1992) in Madrid, under the title Souvenirs, publishing strips of tourist postcards as a catalogue. In 1993, he transformed the El Manantial Gallery in Barcelona into a souvenir shop with his photos reproduced on tourist objects. Since 1994, he has lived in Barcelona, where he has developed the series Modern Geography, a journey across linguistic and territorial borders of the Iberian Peninsula. With the portraits of these young people, he has published postage stamps (magazine El Europeo –1997-, gallery H2o, Barcelona –1999 and 2004-). His last finished series is entitled Habaneras (exhibited at the Círculo de BBAA in Madrid as part of PhotoEspaña 05). In 2009, a major retrospective was organised at the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC) in Seville and at the Canal de Isabel II gallery in Madrid, curated by José Lebrero, current director of the Museo Picasso in Málaga. The exhibition received the Villa de Madrid Award for the best photography exhibition of the year. Since 2011, the Reina Sofía Museum has included his fanzines and photos from the early 1980s, which are part of the MNCARS collection, in the permanent exhibition From the Revolt to Postmodernity (1962-1982). In 2014, he was included in the exhibition The Intangible Heritage, part of the MACBA collection in Barcelona. His work, which blends document, concept and passion, can also be found in important Spanish private collections. In 2020, the solo exhibition Miguel Trillo. La Primera Movida took place at the Círculo de Bellas Artes and within the framework of PHotoEspaña.This artwork includes a certificate of authenticity.
