Biografía del Artista: Born in Tomelloso, Ciudad Real, on January 6, 1936. He was introduced to painting by his uncle Antonio López Torres. He moved to Madrid in 1949, and prepared to enter the School of Fine Arts by attending the Museum of Artistic Reproductions and the School of Arts and Crafts. He studied painting at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid between 1950 and 1955. After completing his studies, he worked between Tomelloso and Madrid until 1960. In 1961 he married María Moreno, also a painter, and between 1962 and 1964 his two daughters, María and Carmen respectively, were born. In the second decade of the sixties, he was a professor in charge of the Preparatory Chair of Colorido at the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando. His first solo exhibition was held at EUROPALIA'85, where Chillida and Tàpies also had solo exhibitions. He has had numerous exhibitions in the most important museums and art centres in Spain, including: ''Antonio López'', at the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum (2011), and ''Antonio López. Man and Woman'' at the MNCARS (2001). Abroad, ''Antonio López García'' stands out at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston (2008). Between 1991 and 2001, he photographed Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain, Juan Carlos and Sofia. In 2008, he placed his well-known public monument "Day and Night" at Madrid's Atocha Station. His many awards include: Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Murcia and Honorary Member of the University Council of the Arts of the University of Alcalá, Madrid, in 2013; Prince of Viana Award for Culture in 2012 and the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts ABC in 1985.
