‘Dolca 2008–2018 line. Unstoppable ’
Juan Uslé is a painter who also takes photos. From his vast personal archive, Línea Dolca is an exhibition made up of one hundred and eighty-two of them, seven small-format paintings and a chocolate-coloured strip of wall. It has been shown in Valencia and Berlin; now, in Madrid. Those who have preceded me in the task of writing about it have approached it with a rigour and pedagogical zeal that frees me from many of the obligations imposed by the “catalogue text”. I admit (as justification for what is to come) my fascination with classifications, taxonomies and, in short, all those tricks to impose order on chaos. The way in which Uslé’s small images are related is as contingent as it is obvious: a railing and the shadow of a scaffold (a stretcher?), a hand holding the hand of Christ and a beer advertisement.
