Biografía del Artista: ANA VIDIGAL (Lisbon, 1960) Lives and works in Lisbon. Ana Vidigal’s work resorts to painting, from collage, assemblage and installation as processes of decontextualization and reconfiguration of images withdrawn from different sources, exploring matters as social and political values and even memories as carriers of those subjects. Graduated in Painting at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts in 1984, Ana Vidigal won a scholarship from Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (1985-1987). She studied etching under Bartolomeu Cid dos Santos, at the Casa das Artes in Tavira (1989), and was painter in residence at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Fortaleza de São Tiago, Funchal (1989-1999). In 1995, she was commissioned by Lisbon Underground to create tiled panels for Alvalade station, and again in 2002 – this time for the new Alfornelos station. In 2010 the retrospective anthology show Menina Limpa Menina Suja, takes place at the Centro de Arte Moderna of the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (Lisbon, PT) curated by Isabel Carlos. Integrated in 2009, once again under the curatorship of Isabel Carlos, the 9th Sharjah Biennal, in the United Arabe Emirates. In 2019 at the Leopoldo de Almeida Museum, Bela e Má, curated by Hugo Dinis, in Caldas da Rainha. She showed Vinte Anos Depois In Mudas Gallery at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Madeira and showed Amor – Próprio at Espaço 531, Gallery Fernando Santos in Porto in 2020. Herança, in National Museum of Contemporary Art in 2021, Ana Beatriz, at Balcony Gallery in 2022 and also COMO É ANTIGO QUE O PASSADO RECENTE in Convento São Francisco em Coimbra. In 2023 exhibits Forrado at Centro Cultural do Funchal in Madeira followed by many more solo and group exhibitions until today. She was an artist-in-residence in Ifitry, Morocco, in 2013. In October 2018, following the invitation of the Portuguese Embassy in Colombia, she gave two Master Classes in Bogotá (Universidad de los Andes and FLORA ars + natura), and created a site-specific at Universidad de los Andes. She is represented in several public and private collections in Portugal and abroad.
