Chingsum Jessye Luk - Shadows #10
Técnica: GICLÉE PRINTING ON PAPER ILFORD GALERIE SMOTH PEARL 310 GR
Biografía del Artista: The work of Chingsum Jessye Luk (Hong Kong, 1982; lives and works in Zurich) addresses the limits of the artistic and its relationship with the everyday, it is a meditation on the evolution of time, memory, perception and language. The artist collects small and simple objects from everyday life, and her interest lies in monotonous and repetitive gestures. Using found objects, the work reflects her obsessive need to collect the everyday, measure, count, accumulate, catalogue, inventory and modify it in a methodical, sometimes pseudoscientific way. Her work is a study of the cyclical and infinite nature of time, an exercise in discipline, a praise of the trivial, a tribute to boredom. In 2019, Chingsum Jessye Luk was awarded the Zurich City Artistic Scholarship, which consisted of a 6-month residency in Paris. The project “Shadows” was carried out under lockdown while the artist was on an artistic scholarship in Paris. Photographs of the shadows in the artist’s studio, taken on the East wall, every day at 5:00 p.m., since March 17, the first day of lockdown in France.
