FLORE - Young Tadzio
Biografía del Artista: Through refined technical interventions in the laboratory, like an alchemist, FLORE shapes as well as restores the world that unfolds before her eyes to make unique images that move away from conventional photographic reality, creating a fusion between content and form. She thus questions the photographic medium, moving easily from older techniques such as platinum-palladium or cyanotype to more modern ones, sometimes mixing them and physically intervening in the prints with wax, gold or pigments. FLORE is totally dedicated to the search for memory and produces “non-sensational” images that attempt to recreate the truth instead of a reality that is slowly fading away. Winner of the Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière Photography Prize in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts and the Nadar Prize. She received the Carte Blanche from the city of Paris.
In the 1970s, FLORE's father suddenly abandoned her mother in the port of Tangier. The discussion was brief, without any outbursts, the decision sudden. She, the painter Olga Jimeno, decided to stay in Tangier and what was initially going to be a summer trip turned into a road trip lasting several months. Created in 2019, shortly after her mother's death, the series is a bittersweet tribute to her memory. The artist whispers to us that time slips away, that memories fade and that those we love die. Using snapshots initially taken on Polaroid, FLORE transports the images to Japanese handmade paper, later adding mother-of-pearl pigments. She thus obtains works that seem to have been taken in the seventies that are the true origin of this series. “Sometimes only photographs remain to remind us of the poetry of happy days.”
