Description
GERARDO RUEDA - S.T. Serigraphy (20/140)

Biografía del Artista: (Madrid, 1926- id., 1996) Spanish painter and one of the most prominent members of abstract art in our country. For his pictorial constructions he used a wide range of materials (cardboard, wood, fabric, etc.), with which he created He sought to create a game of radical contrasts of textures; in terms of color, he sometimes adopted monochrome (Azul, 1972). He participated in the Hispano-American Biennial of Havana (1953) and the Venice Biennial (1960). In 1963 he founded with F. Zóbel the Museum of Abstract Art of Cuenca. Among his works we can mention Blanco, rojo y negro (1975), Alea (1978) and the stained glass windows of the cathedral of Cuenca (1991). In 1989 he donated part of his graphic work to the National Library.

Gerardo Rueda Salaberry (Madrid, 23 April 1926 – 25 May 1996) was a Spanish painter and sculptor, closely linked to the history of 20th-century Spanish abstract painting. He founded the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art in Cuenca, together with Fernando Zóbel and Gustavo Torner. Biography In Madrid he completed his first studies, most of which were at the French Lyceum. In the 1940s Rueda received painting classes from Ángel Mínguez, a history painter. During that decade the artist made several paintings of the Garden of Villa San Juan, in San Rafael (Segovia). During 1943 he copied numerous cubist paintings in a small sketchbook, which made a deep impression on him. He made some collages on the theme of still life, also inspired by Cubism, and continued painting landscapes. He also took notes on the human figure. The landscape views focused on buildings, urban groups and house volumes. In 1949 he studied Law while continuing with his painting. The artist's first collective exhibition, “End of Season” at the Galería de la Revista de Occidente in Madrid. His first collages date back to 1953 and are made with various materials (leather, paper, textiles, etc.). They combine collage and pencil drawing. Very interested in graphic art, he quickly realized that printing was a language of its own. In his early days, he found that silkscreen printing was the most appropriate technique for producing graphic art, printed in his early days by Abel Martín and later by Javier Cebrián, in Cuenca.
