Description
JESSICA STOCKHOLDER - CORONA Homework virus #6 [JS 824]

Técnica: Gofrado and serigraph paper, embroidered thread, pencil. Crayón, marker, graduate pencil

Biografía del Artista: Jessica Stockholder (Seattle, USA, 1959) is one of the most influential sculptors of her generation. Her work spans nearly three decades and is characterized by a commitment to color and materials. The way she interprets objects has become a hallmark of Stockholder's creation, as she participates in both the spheres of conceptualization and construction, through associations between the identifiable and the abstract. Stockholder's interest is focused on the assembly of objects of different nature and origin. Her work is an interrogation of the heterogeneous through an additive process of superimposition of materials, in which she combines objects from the real world and objects created by her without causing chaos, due to her control of space and what it contains, with which she manages to create an order among what at first sight seems chaotic and unconnected.

The Coronavirus Homeworks were created at the artist’s home during the Coronavirus quarantine, when she was unable to access her studio on the University of Chicago campus. The 29 works that make up the series are produced from different types of paper, fabric, paint, markers, colored pencils, glue, and a sewing machine. Their creation sparked a reflection on how we generate meaning and beauty depending on how we live and work within the confines of our circumstances. She thus approached the challenge presented by her precarious circumstances with interest and pleasure, and from the tranquility of her home she crafted these pieces while watching and feeling the weight of tragedy unfolding around her.
