Description
JORGE YEREGUI - Invasive exotic flora

Biografía del Artista: Jorge Yeregui (Santander, Spain, 1975) studied architecture at the University of Seville, and later became a professor at the School of Architecture at the University of Malaga. His interpretation of the landscape has evolved as man's relationship with his environment progresses. At the present time, the way of seeing is undergoing a notable transformation in the transition from discovery to recognition, to the point that it has become almost impossible to see with an innocent gaze. Jorge Yeregui explores this way of constructing and representing the landscape, proposing a reflection on perception and the way in which we build knowledge of our environment. His projects transcend the aesthetics of the landscape and explore the confluence of natural, cultural and social factors that condition it. Yeregui received awards from the Fundación Botín Plastic Arts Grant in 2015, the Casa Velázquez Grant in 2013-2014 and the Pilar Citoler International Contemporary Photography Award 2011 with a work belonging to the Paisajes Mínimos series, which the judges concluded "forms a conceptual exploration of the symbolic value that nature adds to the contemporary city". He has also received several residency grants from the Spanish Academy, Rome, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Colegio de España in Paris, Ministry of Culture. His solo exhibitions have included those at Tabacalera Promoción del Arte, Madrid; Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo, Seville; Centro de Fotografía de la Universidad de Salamanca, Salamanca; Centro José Guerrero, Granada and Colegio de España in Paris. He has also participated in international exhibitions in spaces such as the Centro de la Imagen, Mexico City; Biennial of Architecture of Medellín, Colombia; Instituto Cervantes in Chicago; International Festival of Rome; Instituto Cervantes in Beijing; Pingyao International Photography Festival; Arts Santa Mònica, Barcelona; Matadero, Madrid; DA2, Salamanca; Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; Le Château d'Eau, Toulouse, France and Winterthur Fotomuseum, Switzerland. His work is represented in important collections such as the Spanish Ministry of Culture, the Andalusian Centre for Contemporary Art, the Coca-Cola Foundation, the Photography Centre of the University of Salamanca, the Cajasol Foundation, the Botín Foundation Collection, the New Pilar Citoler Collection and the DKV Collection.
