Julián Gil - PAC 4 12
Biografía del Artista: Julián Gil (Logroño, 1936) is a renowned Spanish painter specialising in concrete art, whose works have inspired future generations of abstract artists. He began his studies at the School of Arts and Crafts in Logroño in 1954, continuing at the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid in 1958. In 1963, he became a Doctor of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he also taught during his professional career. Gil was part of the "Nueva Generación" group created in the 1960s and of the "No Grupo de Madrid" from the 1980s, standing out in the Spanish constructivist movement along with other artists such as Soledad Sevilla, Waldo Balart, Tomás García Asensio and Cruz Novillo. Gil's production is made up of different series in which he uses mathematical formulas and colour theories to create geometric and concrete works of art, completely moving away from the representation of nature. His careful analysis of forms and acute perception of colour allow him to create different chromatic and formal variations with surprising results. Gil's works can be found in important public and private collections at a national and international level, and he has exhibited alongside other prominent representatives of constructivism and concrete art, such as the Germans Diet Sayler, Hartmut Böhm, and Manfred Mohr, the Swiss Rita Ernst, and the British John Carter. With more than five decades of artistic career, Julián Gil is a reference for concrete art in Spain and around the world.
