Manuel Mompo - Couple in the park
Biografía del Artista: Manuel Mompo was born in Valencia and began his studies at the School of Arts and Crafts at the age of 13, completing them in 1943. In 1948, he obtained a scholarship to the Granada Painters' Residence. His first solo exhibition took place in 1951 in Valencia, and in 1954 he moved to Paris, where he continued his training and artistic explorations, later living in Rome and Holland. His work, initially figurative and focused on landscapes and urban themes, evolved towards abstraction influenced by informalism. Throughout his career, Mompó developed his own style, without adhering to specific groups or movements. In 1958 he received a scholarship from the Juan March Foundation to study mosaic techniques, and after his return to Spain, he settled in Madrid, alternating between Ibiza and Mallorca. In his early works, he used gouache and oil on paper, depicting popular scenes that gradually dissolved the form, approaching abstract painting. The Mediterranean light, characteristic of his homeland, was a constant in his work, captured in bright, white tones, alternating with grey. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards, consolidating himself as one of the most prominent figures of abstraction in Spain.
