Meet Dutch artist Nanon Morsink
Mar 30, 2023
Nanon Morsink is an artist of Dutch origin who has been living and working in the south of Spain, in Malaga, for six years. In her artistic search she involves several narratives, thus exploring various production themes.
However, the most obvious characteristic of all her works is the constant dialogue between the spectator and the represented. If the latter is never represented in a way that is completely visible, Nanon does not ask the spectator for direct participation either. The possible conversation between the two is carried out in a safe and secret ideological space by both, and is governed by their own interpretations.

Sometimes the works themselves require an imaginative effort on the part of the viewer. Faces covered with no visible facial features, or intermediate layers painted with a pattern that the artist superimposes on the subjects of the works, need the imagination of the public to complete their forms and achieve a certain organicity.
This characteristic of duality is a recurring element in her art and the women presented in her paintings, for example, are always strong characters as well as vulnerable ones. On many occasions, Nanon is the same protagonist hidden in her narratives.

Nanon uses different materials to produce her pieces, both traditional and not. In fact, among her best-known works are those made with recycled materials, such as ropes and plastics from Andalusian nurseries, as well as intervened objects and fabrics, which contribute to taking them to the dimension of fetishes.
