‘Works 1968 - 1980’

Juan Antonio Aguirre's early works have "naive" connotations, along with some series of an abstract nature. Always based on figuration, his painting evolved towards the compositional inflexibility of neo-constructivism, which fostered his pictorial character and style, in which colour dominates, inspired by Bonnard, Matisse, Munch, and the use of indefinite forms. His works are full of still lifes, which are a reflection of his attention to more trivial themes and the plasticity of his interior landscapes with, also, autobiographical episodes. In all his works we can observe a chromatic determination, applied to multiple images, extracted from any environment.
